I have a Bosch Exxcel Frost Free upright freezer (GSU 29424 GB if relevant - cannot locate other model details despite original stickers attached). The red warning light is flashing and the unit is bleeping with the green temperature lights flashing between -16 and -18, Turning off at mains for few seconds stops the flashing and beeping but the green temp lights continue to flash. This eventually settles down to a constant green -18 illumination with no beeps. However the red light/beep then will re-start and I repeat the mains turn off for sanity. The unit does appear to be holding the temperature OK Would prefer not to have to buy an new freezer if poss if someone can assist with an alternative solution.

Have a careful listen to the compressor. If it's making the trilling or gurgling sounds that go with a working compressor, then your problem is probably one of lost gas. Fixing this is not a do-it-yourself job. If the compressor sounds like it's stalled, the problem may lie with the starter.

Replacements are usually cheap enough for it to be worth fitting a new one just to see if it works. The faulty fridge temp. Sensor can be shorted out by connecting the black wire to the brown wire next to it.

I managed this by bridging the corresponding points on the PCB with a blob of solder. My fridge freezer works OK now on the freezer sensor.

If the noise is coming from the fan inside the freezer, there could be some ice on the frame of the fan and the blades are touching the ice. If the noise is coming from behind the fridge it could be the condensor fan motor. This fan is situated behind the fridge in front of or next to the compressor. It keeps the condensor cool by blowing air onto it. Check this fan.
